Violation of routes by commercial vehicles 1st Offender –                N20,000

Subsequent Offender – N30,000

Non-display of route and routes numbers 1st Offender –                N20,000

Subsequent Offender – N30,000

Disobeying traffic control personnel 1st Offender –                N20,000

Subsequent Offender – N30,000 and impounding of vehicle

Parking on yellow line on any public highway/illegal parking 1st Offender –                N20,000

Subsequent Offender – N30,000

Parking on yellow line on any public highway/illegal parking (trailer) 1st Offender –                N20,000

Subsequent Offender – N30,000

Vehicle crossing double yellow  line/center line 1st Offender –                N20,000

Subsequent Offender – N30,000

Staying within yellow junction box (offside rule) 1st Offender –                N20,000

Failure to yield to right of way of pedestrian at a Zebra crossing 1st Offender –                N20,000

Conveying more than one passenger at any given time 1st Offender –                N20,000

Subsequent Offender – N30,000 or imprisonment for a term of six (6) months (or both)

Installation of musical gadget on a motorcycle 1st Offender –                N20,000

Subsequent Offender – N30,000 and impound the set

Alteration of manufacturer’s specification on motorcycle (e.g Handle bar/leg) 1st Offender –                N20,000

Subsequent Offender – N30,000

Motorcyclist resisting arrest 1st Offender –                N20,000

Subsequent Offender – N30,000

Operating motorcycle without side mirrors, trafficators, break light or rear lights 1st Offender –                N20,000

Motorcycle operating carrying

i.            Pregnant woman

ii.           Adult with baby

iii.         Child below the age of twelve years

Operating a Motorcycle in a restricted area or on prohibited route 1st Offender –                N20,000

Subsequent Offender – N30,000 and impound motorcycle

Exceeding speed limit A fine of N100,000 or imprisonment for a term of one (1) year, or both
Tailgating an emergency vehicle 1st Offender –                N20,000

Subsequent Offender – N30,000

Failure of slow moving vehicle to keep to right lane 1st Offender –                N20,000

Subsequent Offender – N30,000

Assault on officer A fine of N100,000 or imprisonment for a term of three (3) years, or both
Driving in a direction prohibited by Road Traffic Law Forfeiture of vehicle to the state and  imprisonment for a term of one (1) to three (3) years
Illegal U turn 1st Offender –                N20,000

Subsequent Offender – N30,000 and driver training

Wrongful overtaking of other vehicle A fine of N100,000
Overloading of commercial vehicles on highway A fine of N50,000 and dislodge excess
Driving on walkway A fine of N50,000
Parking on walkway A fine of N20,000
Stopping to pick passengers by commercial vehicle on the highway A fine of N20,000 and Driver Training
Abandoned vehicle on the highway A fine of N50,000 and cost of towing
Vehicle causing obstruction on highway if broken down A fine of N50,000 and cost of towing
Conductor or passenger hanging on moving vehicle 1st Offender –                N20,000

Subsequent Offender – N30,000 and dislodge and sanction of driver

Driving Vehicle with doors left open 1st Offender –                N20,000

Subsequent Offender – N30,000

Making or receiving call when driving without hands free 1st Offender –                N20,000

Subsequent Offender – N30,000

 

Counting money, otherwise engaged with other activities while driving

1st Offender –                N20,000

Subsequent Offender – N30,000

Driving without strapping seat belt (for both driver and passenger) 1st Offender –                N20,000

Subsequent Offender – N30,000 and strap on seat belt

Failure to display reflective warning sign at point of break down 1st Offender –                N20,000

Subsequent Offender – N30,000

Motorist resisting arrest 1st Offender –                N20,000

Subsequent Offender – N30,000

Use of BRT lite corridor 1st Offender –                N20,000

Subsequent Offender – N30,000, or imprisonment for a term of 3 years, or both

Willful Obstruction on highway A fine of N50,000 and the cost of towing, or imprisonment for a term of one year, or both

 

Note: the above are the offences and punishment are provided for in the Lagos State Road Traffic Law 2012.
